By AJ Pearce
Set in 1940s London, Emmy has grand ambitions to be a war correspondent. She jumps at the chance to work at a newspaper, but is very disappointed to learn the role is typing up Agony Aunt style replies to readers’ letters, written by the formidable Mrs Bird. When Emmy is unhappy with Mrs Bird’s replies to sad and impressionable young readers, she takes matter into her own hands. Charming, witty , with a handful of lines that made my laugh out loud, I loved Dear Mrs Bird. The first person narration from the warm and lovely Emmy feels like chatting with a best friend.
